Terrible twos. I don’t really like the world “terrible” to describe a child, or my child, but whatever that stage is, it’s here. We want what we want when we want it. And sometimes mommy has no idea what we want. So that leads to crying, screaming, throwing ourselves on the floor.. I’m sure you know, you’ve been there.
But I find it ironic because sometimes that’s exactly how I feel inside too. I want what I want when I want it and if I don’t get it in the time I want it I start to fret, doubt, anxiety sets in.
The waiting game is hard.. not fun. That’s when God is doing the work in us, so He can do a work through us.
I know what I can see, what God has promised, what I hear God calling me to, but He doesn’t just give it to me. Because what would that do? I wouldn’t be grateful, I wouldn’t feel His power, His presence in the gift. Sometimes God has to break us, so we know that it was only by the grace of God that we are where we are. Because as much as we hustle, and y’all know.. I hustle hard, God is in control. That doesn’t mean we stop working and wait for God to wave his magical wand. We do the work, as much as we can and then we give it to God to finish. But we can have complete confidence in our future because of God’s past success. We can look back at what He’s done in our life and know He will do it again.. and again.
And during those desert days, ask God to strengthen and deepen your faith in Him. I know I feel a sense of peace and happiness after I give it to God. I doubt, I worry.. I pray and know.
Have peace in the patience and know that the future is exciting because God has a specific calling and plan just for you.
One of my favorite books on waiting in God’s presence is Wait and See by Wendy Pope. It’s definitely a must read for anyone playing the waiting game.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13
